About
Informed Publications Ltd (IPL) publishes LGITU (Local Government IT in Use) magazine, the Tomorrow’s Town Hall newsletter and www.UKauthorITy.com.
Our team of writers – Helen Olsen, Tim Hampson and Michael Cross – have each been watching and reporting on the use of technology within the public sector for two decades or more. This blog is a collective of the IPL team and other editorial contributors to IPL’s publication where thoughts, opinions and items of general interest can be explored as the public sector transforms itself into a Digital Britain.
When IPL first opened its doors in 1993 the focus was on proving the use of technology to automate the business of local government. Our strapline back at the beginning of the Modernising Government agenda was ‘Keeping the focus on people in the Information Age’. This holds as true today, seventeen years on, as it did then.
The technology moves on, but it must still be used to best serve our citizens. And we fundamentally believe that creation of an efficient, citizen-centric, fit-for-purpose public sector will only be possible through judicious use of technology.
In this information revolution lifestyles are changing irrevocably and at an escalating pace. As people’s lives change so do their expectations, especially those concerning access to public services. At the same time we must be careful that none are left behind in this digital revolution.
